What are you dealing with?
Most people come to us after a letter arrives or money goes missing from a paycheck. Find your situation below — each one has options worth understanding.

Balances that keep growing with penalties and interest, and notices you're not sure how to answer.

The IRS is taking part of your paycheck, and you need to know what can be done and how quickly.

Your account has been frozen or funds were taken. Timing matters here, so don't wait to get advice.
Explore your optionsTax liens
A federal lien is attached to your property or affecting your credit, and you want it addressed properly.
Explore your optionsUnfiled returns
One missed year turned into several. Getting current is usually the first step toward any resolution.

CP14, CP504, LT11 — we'll tell you what your letter actually means and how much time you have.
Explore your optionsHow it works
A clear path, one step at a time
You'll always know what's happening, what we need from you, and what comes next.
The Tax Investigation Phase
We talk through what you've received, pull your IRS transcripts with your authorization, and confirm exactly what's owed and for which years. This is where guesswork ends and facts start.
Your written resolution plan
You'll get a written review of the programs you may appear to qualify for, what each one requires, and what it costs — before you decide anything.
We take it to the IRS
Once you're represented, IRS contact comes to us. We file what's missing, submit your case, and keep you updated as it moves.
Move toward resolution
We follow the case through to a determination and help you stay compliant afterward, so the same problem doesn't come back.
Resolution takes different forms depending on your finances and filing history — a payment plan, a reduced settlement, a hardship status, or penalty relief. No firm can promise a specific outcome, and any that does should give you pause. Every case is different.

Client experiences
What working with us is like
I had four years unfiled and I was too embarrassed to call anyone. Nobody made me feel stupid. They told me exactly what they needed and handled the rest.
The garnishment was taking a third of my check. My case manager explained what could be done and what the timeline looked like, and she never oversold it.
What I appreciated most was the honesty. They told me upfront which program I probably wouldn't qualify for instead of taking my money to try anyway.
Client names and identifying details have been changed for privacy. Individual results depend entirely on the facts of each case, including income, assets, and filing history. Past outcomes do not predict or guarantee future results.
Common questions
Answers before you call
If your question isn't here, ask us during your free consultation — there's no charge for a straight answer.
Can the IRS really take my paycheck or my bank account?
Yes. After a series of notices, the IRS has the authority to levy wages and bank accounts without a court order. That's why the dates on your notices matter so much. Once you're represented, we can contact the IRS on your behalf and work on an arrangement, though we can't promise a specific result or timeline.
Will I qualify to settle for less than I owe?
Some people do, through the Offer in Compromise program, but qualification is based on a strict formula involving your income, expenses, and the equity in what you own. Many taxpayers don't qualify and are better served by a payment plan or hardship status. We'll walk you through the math on your own numbers before you spend anything.
I haven't filed in years. Am I in trouble?
You're far from alone, and it's fixable. Getting your missing returns filed is normally the first step toward any relief program, and in some cases the returns the IRS filed for you overstate what you actually owe. We help reconstruct records when documents are long gone.
What does it cost to work with Alliance?
The consultation is free. If we take your case, it starts with the Tax Investigation Phase — transcript retrieval, financial analysis, and a written resolution plan — quoted in writing before you enroll. Because that work begins immediately, it's non-refundable once started, though we refund it in full if we can't complete it for reasons on our end. Resolution work is quoted separately after you've seen the plan.
How long does resolution take?
It depends on the program and current IRS processing times. Some actions, like getting into a payment plan, can move relatively quickly. Others, like an Offer in Compromise, often take many months. We'll give you a realistic range for your situation rather than a number designed to sound good.
Is Alliance Tax Defense part of the IRS or a government agency?
No. We are an independent tax resolution firm based in California, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by the Internal Revenue Service or any government agency. We handle tax resolution — we don't provide legal, accounting, or bankruptcy services. You always have the right to contact the IRS directly or to represent yourself.
